People Magazine: Guns N’ Roses: Chinese Democracy

Welcome back to the jungle. Finally. After well over a decade – and a reported $13 – 14 million – in the making, Chinese Democracy is really here. While it’d be pretty impossible for anything to live up to that kind of buildup, Guns N’ Roses comes back with a bang. Aside from those dubious dreads on Axl Rose, the only remaining original member, the band largely seems frozen in time with blazing, bone-crushing rockers and sweeping, epic ballads. (What, did you want them to go electro?) But when sampling MLK on “Madagascar,” GNR feels very of the Obama moment.
