PARK CITY, UT (December 3, 2012)  –  The 2013 Sundance Film Festival has announced the selection of the new documentary History of the Eagles Part 1 for its Documentary Premieres section at the renowned annual movie industry celebration in Park City, UT.  Providing an intimate look into the history of the group and the legacy of their music, the Eagles partnered with Academy Award-winning filmmaker Alex Gibney (Taxi to the Dark SideEnron: The Smartest Guys in the Room) to produce a fully authorized, feature-length documentary entitled History of the Eagles Part 1.   The film will debut on the silver screen, presented by Acura, on January 19th at 9:45 PM in the Eccles Theater.

History of the Eagles Part 1 explores the band’s creation and rise to fame in the 1970s through their breakup in 1980.  More than 25 new interviews were conducted with all current and former band members, as well as with many others who have been closely involved in their history.  In addition, the documentary features previously unreleased home movies and archival footage, including a rare 1977 concert film from the Hotel California tour.  Personal photos, video and memorabilia amassed by the Eagles over the course of their career will also be seen for the very first time.

Directed by Alison Ellwood and produced by Alex Gibney, History of the Eagles Part 1 was created with a top-notch crew of filmmakers including: Blair Foster, Executive Producer; Alison Ellwood and Ben Sozanski, Editors; Karim Karmi, Co-Producer; and Erin Edeiken, Line Producer.

“For the last 5 years, and intensely this past year, we have been putting together this document of our history with Alex and Alison, who have contributed their incredible talents to help us tell our story,” said Glenn Frey of the Eagles.  “We’re all very pleased with the progress so far, and are excited to see the finished product at Sundance.”

The Eagles have sold more than 120 million albums worldwide, earned five No. 1 U.S. singles and six GRAMMY® Awards.  Their Greatest Hits 1971-1975 is the best-selling album of all time, exceeding sales of 29 million units.  The band’s Hotel California and Eagles Greatest Hits, Vol. 2 have sold more than 16 million and 11 million albums, respectively.  The Eagles were inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 1998.
