FOUR-NIGHT CARIBBEAN CRUISE TO SAIL FROM
JACKSONVILLE TO THE BAHAMAS FEBRUARY 13 – 17, 2014
Los Angeles, CA – May 28, 2013 – Grammy® Award-winning group Weezer and cruise company Rose Tours announced today the line-up for the second edition of The Weezer Cruise. Launching from Jacksonville, FL on February 13, the cruise will hit new Caribbean ports—including Freeport and Nassau in the Bahamas—as fans celebrate Valentine’s Day and President’s Day weekend with their favorite bands, before returning to port on February 17. The artists hand-selected by Weezer to rock the boat in 2014 are: Toro y Moi, comedian Adam Devine (from “Workaholics”), Ash, Bleached, Caveman, DIIV, Holy F*ck, Ozma, Palma Violets, The Cribs, The Orwells and The Relationship. As previously announced, main headliners Weezer will perform three sets during the cruise, including an unprecedented “Beach Concert with Weezer” on their own private island (off of Nassau’s coast). Joining Weezer for the special concert on the sand will be Cat Power. Before coming aboard, fans can get familiar with all the cruise bands via a Spotify playlist created by Weezer.
Reservations for the cruise are available now. Prices start at $599 per person, with a $300 per person deposit needed at the time of booking. For more details and up-to-the-minute information, visit www.theweezercruise.com.
Weezer’s Rivers Cuomo said, “Once we locked in all these great artists I started to feel Weezer is real lucky to be able to go on this cruise. Sharing the boat with them and all of our fans is going to be so much fun.”
Weezer’s Pat Wilson said, “Why not join us on a Weezer Cruise to the Carribean? Magic feelings will turn into magic memories, magically. I am a big fan of Ash and Cat Power and looking forward to seeing the other bands too.”
The Weezer Cruise 2014 will bring fans on board a world-class cruise ship to experience deluxe accommodations during an incredible four days and nights. Besides checking out the musical performances, cruisers will also get a rare chance to see their favorite musicians off-stage as well, during a special fan Q&A session with Weezer; an interactive Weezer Game Show; and a photo session for all guests (aka “Weezer shipmates”) with the band. There will also be evening theme nights; complimentary meals; a one-hour open bar cocktail party; and much more. Each of the bands on the cruise will also participate in special activities with fans. With performers playing continuously every day at various on-board venues, fans will be able to get close for most sets. A continually updated list of 2014 cruise activities can be found at www.theweezercruise.com/.
In addition to all the Weezer Cruise activities, the ship features an array of amenities for guests, including: 24-hour room service; a fitness center with gym, plus yoga and Pilates sessions; two swimming pools and a whirlpool; a variety of casual and gourmet dining options; an art gallery; internet café; gaming options for adults and kids, including mini golf, table tennis and more; karaoke rooms; a library; a video arcade; a casino featuring blackjack, craps and poker tournaments; a hair and beauty salon; spa treatments; duty-free shopping options; and more.
The first edition of the Weezer Cruise in 2012 was a smash success, when the band brought along Dinosaur Jr., Sebadoh, Wavves, The Antlers, Yuck, Free Energy, Sleeper Agent, and others to entertain 2,000 cruise-goers. In addition to Weezer’s concerts, band members hosted shipboard activities: Rivers Cuomo read from the Pinkerton Diaries; Brian Bell hosted a p.j.s and robes “Movie Night”; Pat Wilson ran a shuffleboard tournament; and Scott Shriner led couples through wedding vow renewals. Other fun themed activities included an “Ugly Sweater Night,” “Weezer Karaoke,” belly flop competitions, beer tastings, and much more.
Reporting on the 2012 Weezer Cruise, The New York Times declared that “it was awesome….” The artists were equally impressed, as Weezer drummer Pat Wilson told Rolling Stone that “It was pretty magical….It was surreal….It was insane.” A reporter for The Guardian declared that “nothing could prepare me for the awesomeness of the Weezer Cruise,” while a Billboard scribe noted that “watching Rivers [Cuomo] clamor into the audience…now bathing in the love of the devoted family that Weezer has built over the past 20 years is something I won’t soon forget.” SPIN summed up the experience afterwards as follows: “Weezer superfans are currently recovering from their weekend in Heaven, otherwise known as the 2012 Weezer Cruise.”
