THE FORUM’S ICONIC EXTERIOR COLOR IMMORTALIZED AS “FORUM RED”
“FORUM RED” PAINT COLOR TO BE MADE AVAILABLE GLOBALLY
Los Angeles, CA (November 8, 2013) – Madison Square Garden Entertainment (MSGE) and Tnemec, the manufacturer of the world’s most advanced line of protective coatings, announced today that the exterior color of the “Fabulous” Forum has officially been renamed “Forum Red,” and will be available globally.
In 1967, Jack Kent Cooke originally constructed the Forum as a new home for the NBA’s Los Angeles Lakers and the NHL’s Los Angeles Kings. The new building, which was designed by renowned Los Angeles architect Charles Luckman, was painted “California sunset red.” Two decades later, this striking color was changed to a more staid blue. Now, with The Madison Square Garden Company’s (MSG) reinvention of this iconic building, the exterior color of the Forum has returned to its original vibrant red in an effort to replicate Luckman’s original design. To commemorate the completion of the exterior of the building, today, Inglewood Mayor James T. Butts and local children applied the final brushstrokes of “Forum Red” to the iconic venue.
“We are thrilled to be bringing this iconic Southern California landmark back to its original glory,” said Melissa Ormond, president, MSG Entertainment. “Thanks to its unsurpassed acoustics and warm intimate arena experience, the Forum has earned a special place in music history that will now be commemorated through Tnemec’s ‘Forum Red,’ which will be offered around the globe.”
“Tnemec is proud to be involved with the renovation of the Forum,” said Tony Hobbs, southern California territory manager, Tnemec. “With the combined goals of historical tribute and long-term coating performance, the newly named ‘Forum Red’ will ensure unprecedented color and gloss for this extraordinary venue for years to come.”
The “return to red” is a nod to the days when the Forum not only served as home to the LA Lakers and Kings, but also hosted the greatest musicians of the day, including the Rolling Stones, The Jackson 5, Led Zeppelin, Elvis Presley, Elton John, Bob Dylan, The Who, Jimi Hendrix, Eagles, and many more.
The Forum is currently undergoing a reinvention that will create a thriving venue for both artists and music fans. The Forum will open in January as the largest indoor performance venue in the country designed with a focus on music and entertainment. Architecturally, the interior of the bowl will be completely modernized and feature flexible seating, ranging from 17,500 seats to 8,000 seats, enabling the venue to attract a wide variety of events. In addition to completely refurbished concourses, fans will enjoy approximately 8,000 square feet of new event level hospitality offerings, including food and beverage, merchandise and bathrooms. A tinted glass wall will separate this concession area from the arena floor; ensuring fans do not miss a moment of the performance. Additionally, the Forum will deliver a one-of-a-kind experience for artists thanks to its superior acoustics, intimate ambiance and state-of-the-art facilities. The new Forum was designed with artists in mind and will include seven, star-caliber dressing rooms that feature upgraded amenities, providing an unparalleled experience for all entertainers and performers.
The Forum will reopen on January 15 with six historic performances by the legendary Eagles. Synonymous with California music history, and one of the most prolific and successful acts of all time, the Eagles are bringing their highly successful “History of the Eagles” tour to the Forum for grand opening performances on January 15, 17, 18, 22, 24 and 25, performing classics spanning their career, including some that have never been performed live. On January 20, Justin Timberlake’s highly-anticipated “20/20 Experience World Tour” will come to the venue. Imagine Dragons’ “Into the Night Tour” will come to the Forum on February 14, followed by “Paul Simon & Sting: On Stage Together” on February 15. Armin van Buuren’s “Armin Only: Intense” is scheduled for May 9.
The Forum expands MSG’s footprint to the West Coast, and adds a seventh venue to the company’s famed portfolio of venues. Those venues include: “The World’s Most Famous Arena,” Madison Square Garden; the art deco masterpiece, Radio City Music Hall; the renowned Beacon Theatre; the legendary Chicago Theatre in Chicago; The Theater at Madison Square Garden and Boston’s Wang Theatre.
