When a cadre of ’60s rockers shuffled back into the spotlight last year for Woodstock’s 40th anniversary, their vibe must have been mind-blowingly inspirational: This summer, a substantial number of their ’70s and early-’80s counterparts are playing the Boomer nostalgia circuit, some in new configurations and promoting new albums. USA TODAY checks out some of the family reunions and resolute keepers of the flame.
Bachman & Turner
Lineage: Randy Bachman and Fred Turner were one-half of Bachman-Turner Overdrive, a Winnipeg-based blue-collar rock quartet formed in 1973. Bachman left for the last time in 1991; Turner retired in 2005. The pair is reuniting for the first time in nearly 20 years and touring with a backing band.
Classic works: Takin’ Care of Business and You Ain’t Seen Nothin’ Yet dominated radio in 1974.
New dish: The band’s Bachman & Turner album is out Sept. 7; single Rollin’ Along is out now.
