The 80-Minute Concert Was Filmed at the Hollywood American Legion for a Packed Crowd of alt-J Fans, Exclusively for the Artists Den
DENVER – July 30, 2015 – On September 2, 2015 the Artists Den and Fathom Events will premiere their first-ever joint cinema event starring U.K. rock group alt-J with “Artists Den Presents alt-J.” The event includes an exclusive performance during which the group played hits from its most recent albums for a packed crowd of 600 invited guests for a private performance inside the soaring, historic meeting hall of the Hollywood American Legion in Los Angeles. Watch a trailer here.
The event includes this rare and intimate concert performance with interview footage captured exclusively for the big screen. Theaters across the country will have a unique cinema experience for this one-time event, showcasing many of alt-J’s hits from its debut album, 2012’s An Awesome Wave, and songs from the band’s most recent album, This Is All Yours, which was released in 2014 and received a 2015 GRAMMY nomination for Best Alternative Music Album.
Tickets for “Artists Den Presents alt-J” can be purchased online by visiting www.FathomEvents.com, or at participating theater box offices. Fans throughout the U.S. will be able to enjoy the event in more than 400 movie theaters through Fathom’s Digital Broadcast Network. For a complete list of theater locations visit the Fathom Events website (theaters and participants are subject to change).
“Artists Den Presents alt-J” captures an intense, moody set by the band, filmed at Los Angeles’s Hollywood American Legion. The surging, boisterous set includes hit singles “Fitzpleasure,” “Breezeblocks,” and “Left Hand Free,” as well as exclusive concert footage and band interviews that will not been seen anywhere else. The Hollywood American Legion, with its grand vaulted ceilings, made for a historic and dramatic setting that lent itself well to alt-J’s edgy, dynamic rock songs.
“It’s quite a historic room, a really beautiful room with a huge ceiling,” singer and keyboardist Gus Unger-Hamilton said in an interview that was captured for the film. “I don’t think the size of the room normally affects the set list, but I think there’s a different kind of rapport with the crowd. You can feel it’s more personal.”
“You just know that crowds are really kind of hungry, and they’re just going to eat it up,” lead singer and guitarist Joe Newman echoed.
“We’re excited to be working with the iconic Artists Den to bring this exclusive concert event to U.S. audiences,” said Kymberli Frueh, Fathom Events VP of Programming. “Alt-J captivated an intimate crowd in Los Angeles and now they can offer this same compelling concert to the entire country and with additional bonus content.”
